Three Rules from Anthropic for Giving Claude Safe Access to Your Business

9 July 2026

Do This Now

Most business owners set up Claude once, give it access to everything, and assume it will be fine. It probably will not be.

Anthropic published guidance on how to use Claude safely inside business systems. Three parts of it matter most if you are letting Claude work across your data, your inbox, or your client records.

The first is containment. Claude should operate inside a defined workspace, not across your entire drive or full inbox. Give it a specific folder, a specific project, a specific scope. When Claude has a boundary, mistakes stay inside it.

The second is confirmation before action. Claude should ask before it sends, changes, or updates anything. If your setup does not include that pause, change it now. The moment between Claude having a plan and Claude executing it is where you stay in control.

The third is deliberate connection. Every tool you connect to Claude, your CRM, your calendar, your email, expands what it can do and what it can accidentally affect. Add one integration at a time. Know what each one touches before you add the next.

I went back through my own setup after reading this and found two connections I had forgotten were active. Neither had caused a problem, but I had no idea they were running.

Check your Claude setup this week. Start with what it has access to. Then confirm it asks before it acts.
