Claude Code is not a developer tool
20 July 2026

If you hear the words "Claude Code" and switch off, this one is for you.
Most business owners think it is a developer tool and ignore it completely. They are wrong to.
What puts people off is the look of it: a black screen full of text. You open the Claude desktop app, click the Code tab, and that impression is gone. What you see is Claude working in real time, files and folders taking shape in front of you.
The way you use it is the same as any other Claude product. You describe what you want. Claude writes a plan. You approve it. Claude builds it. Nothing coded by you.
Cowork runs your day to day. Code builds what does not exist yet: a website, a booking system, an internal reporting tool, a dashboard for your clients.
If you have been avoiding Claude Code because you assumed it was for developers, give it one real job this week. Something specific. A report you run manually, a form you want to automate, a tool you have been putting off building.
Ten minutes in, you will see it was never what you thought it was.
