Which Claude product to open

There are four Claude products. Most people only know one and wonder why it keeps feeling like the wrong tool for every job they bring to it.

The answer is almost always that they opened the wrong product. Each one is built for a different type of work, and the mismatch shows up in every response you get back.

Claude Chat is for thinking. Research, writing, getting a second opinion, talking a problem through. It is the conversational tool.

Claude Cowork is for running your day. Sorting files, drafting replies, handling the repetitive tasks that cycle around every week. This is the product I open most for anything routine.

Claude Code looks technical, and the name puts most people off. I lean on it for the heavy lifting: digging into a messy spreadsheet, pulling a report from raw data, making software do what I actually need. You describe the job in plain English and you never write any code.

Claude Design is the newest. Describe what you need visually, a slide deck, a client mockup, or a brand image, and it builds it for you. No design background needed.

Before you open anything, ask what the job is. Then open the product built for it.
