OpenAI Just Released Voice AI That Can Run Your Phone Line
27 June 2026

Most businesses meet clients for the first time by voice: the phone call, the front desk, the booking query.
OpenAI released three voice AI models this week that can handle all of that.
The first runs full conversations with reasoning behind every response. It doesn't follow a script. It processes what the caller actually says and works out an answer. Follow-up questions get real responses, not scripted loops.
The second translates across 70 languages in real time. You speak in English and the caller hears their own language. Any business with clients or suppliers across Europe now has a translator that doesn't clock off.
The third transcribes speech as it happens. Meeting notes exist while you're still in the room.
All three run on OpenAI's API. Developers are already building on top of them.
This isn't the finished product. But it is the point where the tools to automate the front of your business exist and are being wired up. The product someone builds with these this year will handle real business calls with real people.
Write down the three calls your team takes most often. Those are the conversations voice AI will try to handle first.
