I Used to Think AI Agents Needed a Developer. Anthropic Just Changed That.
24 June 2026

You've been told building an AI agent needs a developer and a budget to match. Neither is true anymore, and waiting on them is costing you the head start.
Anthropic has a platform that lets you set up a working agent in an afternoon. Three things to define: the task you want done, the tools it needs to access, and what finished actually looks like. Once the agent has all three, it checks its own output against that standard before it hands anything back.
What used to take a developer weeks of scoping and building, you can have running in hours.
You can run multiple agents at the same time, each handling a different part of the same problem. A weekly client update. An email triage that routes incoming queries. A monthly pull from your accounts software. Any of those could be running in the background right now.
I work with business owners who spent months assuming they needed technical help to start. By the time they found out they didn't, their competitors were already running agents.
The challenge has moved from technical complexity to knowing which task in your business is worth starting with.
Pick one repetitive job. Write down what done looks like in plain language. That's your first agent brief.
