One photo is slowing your site

The thing slowing your vibe coded website down more than anything else is photos. That professional headshot you handed your AI coding tool is probably 40 times bigger than it needs to be.

A photo straight off a phone or a camera runs 4 to 8 megabytes. For your site to load quickly, images should be under 100 kilobytes. The AI won't shrink them unless you ask, so your homepage ends up carrying one file bigger than the rest of the site combined.

On a laptop with good broadband you'll never notice. Someone out and about on their mobile watches a blank screen trying to load, and leaves. People don't wait for websites. Google measures your speed too, and slow load times count against you in search.

The fix is one habit. Every time you give your coding tool a photo, add a line: resize and compress this for the web first. On screen, the photo looks identical at a twentieth of the size.

Google also has a free tool that analyses your website and names exactly what is slowing it down. Go to pagespeed.web.dev, paste in your address, and it hands you a complete report. I take that report, give it back to my coding tool, and ask it to hit a score of at least 90 out of 100 on every metric.
