Arguing with your AI makes it worse
16 August 2026

Arguing with your AI makes its answers worse. Every correction you type pulls the next attempt further off course.
You ask for something and the answer comes back wrong. You reply with no, that's not what I meant. It apologises, has another go, and misses in a new way. Ten minutes later you're four corrections deep and the answers are getting stranger.
The reason is simple. Claude re-reads the entire conversation every time it answers. Every wrong attempt and every correction is still sitting in there, and it all drags the new answer back towards the old mistakes. The longer you argue, the more wrong material it's working from. Ten minutes of arguing produces a worse answer than thirty seconds of editing.
So edit the question instead of arguing with the answer.
Hover over your original message, or press and hold it on your phone, and hit edit. Fix the brief. Add the detail it was missing, and the wrong answer has just shown you exactly what that detail was. Then resend.
The wrong answer disappears from the conversation Claude reads. As far as it's concerned, the mistake never happened. You get a first attempt at a good brief instead of a fifth attempt at a messy argument.
I do this constantly, and it has changed how I treat wrong answers. A bad reply is feedback on my brief, and the original message is the fastest place to apply it.
Next time AI hands you the wrong answer, don't reply. Go back up and fix the question.
