Three Claude Skills Worth Actually Installing

Do This Now

Most Claude skills you find online are not worth installing as they come.

They are one-size-fits-all by design. Someone built a skill that works for their business, shared it, and now it is going around as a ready-made solution. The instructions inside are real. They tell Claude exactly what to do, in what format, in what tone. The problem is they describe how that person's business works, not yours.

Deleting them outright is a waste. Treating them as finished is worse.

A skill is a set of instructions Claude follows every time it runs a particular job. It can search the web, write documents, pull data, build reports. When the instructions are calibrated to your business, the output is consistently yours. When they are not, you get something generic that sounds plausible but needs reworking every time.

Here is what I do instead. I download the skill as a starting point. Then I ask Claude to read it back to me and flag anything it does that I would not want. That is the safety check. Most people skip it. Then I ask Claude to interview me about how my business actually handles that job. It asks the questions, I answer in plain English, and it rewrites the skill around what I tell it.

I did this with a cashflow skill. The downloaded version pulled Xero numbers in a generic format. After the interview, it pulled them the way I categorise my accounts and wrote the summary in the language my accountant actually uses. Same underlying skill. Completely different output.

Find a skill today. Have Claude check it, then have it interview you and reshape it around your business.
