Should you vibe code your website?

One of my AI accelerator clients asked me straight out on a call this week whether building his own website with AI was a stupid idea.

It isn't. I built aiwithkelso.com exactly that way. I described what I wanted, Claude wrote the code, and the site is live today. No agency, no developer, no monthly retainer.

But there's a catch, and I only found it days after I launched.

I opened Google Search Console and Google could only see 3 of my 30 pages. The site looked perfect in the browser. To Google, most of it didn't exist.

Very few people building their first AI website know this can happen. You check the site on your phone and everything loads, so you assume the job is done. Meanwhile the pages Google can't see might as well not be there.

The cause is in how AI tools like to build. They lean towards sites where each page only gets drawn once it's open in your browser. Your visitors see everything, but Google's crawler can miss whole pages.

So do one thing before you launch. Set up Google Search Console. It's free, and it shows you exactly which pages Google can and can't see. If the list comes up short, you've found the problem while it's still cheap to fix.

My answer to my client was yes, build it yourself. You end up owning your website instead of renting it from an agency at a monthly rate.

Just go in knowing where the holes are. This one hid from me for days, and it's only one of about five waiting for a first-time builder. Set up Search Console before you tell anyone your site is live.
