Anthropic's AI Report Just Handed You a Business

Most people read the big AI jobs report and take exactly the wrong thing from it.

Anthropic put numbers on which jobs are most exposed to AI. Legal and office admin sit near the top. The instinct is to scan that list for your own job and start worrying.

The report says something very different.

AI is nowhere near doing what it could theoretically do. Real usage is a fraction of what's possible. There's a wide gap between what AI is capable of in a sector and what's actually being used on the ground in that sector.

That gap is where the work is.

Take Anthropic's own numbers. AI could theoretically handle 94% of the tasks in computer and maths roles. Today it's covering about 33% of them. Office and admin sits near 90% on paper. The blue line on their chart, what AI could do, runs miles ahead of the red line, what's actually being used, in nearly every category.

So the most exposed sectors are also the least served. Nobody has built the thing that closes the distance for them yet.

If you work in AI, or you want to, that chart is a target list. Pick one sector off it. A solicitors firm, a financial adviser, a school. Sit with one of them and find the single task that eats their week and never fitted properly into the software they already pay for.

Then build a small tool that takes that one job off their desk.

You're solving one expensive problem for one type of business. That's how micro SaaS actually gets built, and the data just told you which doors are still unlocked.
