You've pasted client details into AI for months. Do you know where it goes?

You've been pasting client details into AI for months.
Names, numbers, maybe a contract or two. Have you ever checked how long that tool keeps it?
Most owners haven't. I hadn't either, until something this week made me look more carefully.
Anthropic's paid flagship model came with a catch buried in the terms. It keeps your data for thirty days, and you can't turn that off. This is the paid model, the one you actually depend on.
None of this means you should stop using AI for client work. You just want to know the terms before the data goes in.
Do one thing today. Open the AI tool you use most for client work. Find the data retention setting or the terms page. Check how long it keeps what you type and whether you can reduce it.
If you don't like the answer, keep the sensitive details out and feed it the shape of the problem instead. AI gives useful output from a general brief. You don't need to paste in a contract to get help with a contract issue.
Five minutes. You'll know exactly where your clients' data goes.
