Your Claude skills now work in ChatGPT
27 October 2026

Choosing between Claude and ChatGPT just got a lot less risky.
ChatGPT has skills now, and the skills you built in Claude move across in one file.
A lot of the business owners I work with held off building anything properly because they were worried about picking the wrong platform. Months of setup in one tool felt like a trap if a better one came along next year.
That worry was fair. Until now, everything you taught one AI stayed locked inside it.
A skill is a saved set of instructions that gets the AI doing a job your way, every time. Think of it as an SOP for your AI. You stop explaining every job from scratch, and you stop keeping a massive document of prompts nobody can find.
Claude has had skills for about a year. ChatGPT now works the same way, so the effort you put in comes with you.
I have one for writing proposals. It holds my structure, my past examples and my tone of voice.
To move one across, go to Customize in Claude, open Skills, pick the one you want and download it from the three-dot menu. You get one file with the instructions and every reference document bundled inside.
Open a new chat in the ChatGPT desktop app, drop the file in and type "install this skill". From then on, ChatGPT uses it whenever you ask for that job.
If you can't see Skills under Plugins in ChatGPT, check your plan, because it isn't switched on for every account yet.
The bigger win is for your team. Build your processes as skills once, and everyone can use them in whichever AI they prefer.
Pick the one job you explain most often and turn it into a skill this week.
