Why Claude's designs all look the same

Do This Now

Claude designs like it's never seen a good website.

Ask it for a landing page and you get the same safe layout everyone else is getting. When you give Claude nothing to aim at, it falls back on the average of everything it has seen.

The fix is free. Show it brilliant work before you ask for anything.

There are galleries online that collect exactly that:

  • Land-book, for some of the best-designed landing pages around
  • Really Good Emails, a huge library of marketing emails from brands that know what they're doing
  • Pricing Pages, for how strong companies lay out their plans
  • Social Proof Examples, with nearly two hundred ways to present testimonials
  • Deck Gallery, for slide decks and brand guidelines from real companies

Before you ask Claude for a landing page, pick two or three you love from the right gallery and screenshot them. Paste the screenshots straight into the chat.

Use screenshots rather than links. A link mostly hands Claude the page's text, and what it needs is to see the design.

Then tell it to study the examples first: the layout, the spacing, how the headline sits against the image. Only after that, ask it to draft yours.

The same move works for anything visual you ask Claude for. Planning an email campaign? Start in Really Good Emails. Rebuilding your pricing page? Start in Pricing Pages.

The drafts come back looking like someone with taste built them.

Show Claude what a good website looks like, and it stops designing like it's never seen one.
