Long Game

Sell the assessment first

Long Game

Stop selling what you do. Sell the assessment first.

Nobody wakes up wanting to buy consulting, or accounting, or a marketing retainer. What they want to know is whether they actually have a problem, how bad it is, and what fixing it would be worth.

An assessment answers exactly that. It is small, low risk, and the client gets something valuable even if they never spend another cent with you.

I sell my own AI work this way. I don't pitch months of consulting to someone who has never seen what AI could do for their specific business. Instead I sell a short audit. It shows them exactly where AI would save time and money, and what to do first. I call it the AI Opportunity Audit.

Some people take the audit and move forward on their own. They got the clarity they needed and they run with it. Others see their own numbers and the next step sells itself. They ask about the full programme before I have said a word about it.

The people who already know their problem skip the audit entirely and come straight in. The assessment didn't lose them. It just wasn't the door they needed.

Selling a service asks the client to trust you before they understand their own situation. An assessment hands them the understanding first. The trust follows on its own.

Pick the one question your perfect-fit clients always ask before they buy anything. Build a short, structured way to answer it with real numbers and a clear recommendation at the end.

Give it a name and a small price. Offer it before you ever mention the full service.
