Do This Now

Same person. Better brief.

Do This Now

You hired someone this morning. First day. You sat them down and said, "Write me a proposal email."

You got jargon from their last job, nothing that sounds like your business, nothing you could actually send.

Now imagine the same person, same day, but this time you hand them your tone, your client brief, a proposal that won the work last quarter, and a word limit. Completely different output. The only thing that changed was the brief.

AI works the same way. It does not know your business or what good looks like in your world. Until you tell it.

Most people skip this step entirely. They type a task and wonder why the output reads like it was written for someone else.

That is what I call the Brief. Four things: context, constraints, criteria, and a cross-check.

Context: who you are and who the client is. Constraints: the boundaries, word count, tone, format.

Criteria: what good looks like, a real example of work that landed. Cross-check: one final question that catches problems before you use the output.

I started running this on every client proposal six months ago. Proposals that needed a full rewrite started coming back as first drafts I could send after ten minutes of editing. I changed nothing except what I gave AI before I hit enter.

Fix the brief, and the output fixes itself.
