If AI does it all, why pay you?

If AI does everything better, why would anyone pay you?
I hear this from business owners nearly every week. It sounds logical. If AI can write the proposal, draft the report, and compose the email, what exactly is left for you?
Computers have been better than us at chess since 1997. More people play chess today than at any point in history. Worth sitting with that for a second.
I use AI every day. It writes the first draft of nearly everything I produce, proposals, reports, plans, client emails. But every single draft needs someone to decide whether it fits this client, and whether it should exist at all.
That deciding is the most valuable part of the work. And by letting AI handle the drafting, I finally have time to invest properly in those decisions.
AI will hand you ten decent options in a minute. Choosing the one your customer actually needs takes judgement you have spent years building. Producing is getting cheaper by the month, which means the value sits with the person who decides what is worth producing.
No client has ever hired me because I type fast. They hire me because I can tell them which problem is worth solving first, and which one is a distraction dressed up as urgency.
You will not outproduce AI, and you do not need to. Knowing which client needs the hard conversation and knowing what is actually worth building, that is what people pay for, and it gets more valuable as the drafting gets free.
Write down the three decisions in your business that only you can make. Spend the time AI gives you back on getting better at those.
