Google's Free AI Model Runs on Your Phone With No Data Leaving the Device

Most solicitors, accountants, and healthcare providers I talk to have one reason for staying off AI: data. They don't want client information going to a server they don't control.

Google released something this week that removes that argument.

It's called Gemma 4. It's free, and it runs entirely on your phone or desktop. No internet connection. No data leaving the device. Everything is processed locally.

Most AI tools work by sending your query to a remote server, getting a response back, and logging the conversation somewhere in the process. That's why regulated industries have been cautious, and rightly so. The risk is real.

Gemma 4 is different. It sits on the device. What happens there stays there. Nothing is sent, stored, or seen by anyone outside.

I've been saying for a while that the data concern is the one objection I can't argue away with current tools. This changes that. It's not a full AI setup. It won't replace the workflows you'd build in Claude or ChatGPT. Think of it as a first step that costs nothing and carries no compliance question.

For anyone in a regulated sector who has been watching AI from the sidelines, this is the on-ramp.

Download the Google AI Edge Gallery app and test it on one real task this week.
