Count the question marks

Do This Now

Go back through your last ten AI prompts. I'd bet at least eight of them are questions.

"How do I write a proposal email?" "What should I include in a follow-up?" "Can you help me with my onboarding process?"

Questions get answers. And answers sound like textbooks. Generic, safe, could have come from anywhere.

The problem is Google. Twenty years of typing questions into a white box trained your fingers to do it automatically. You see a blinking cursor and you ask it something, because that is all you have ever done with one.

AI is not a search engine. A question hands over control. The AI decides what to cover and what tone to use. You get a lecture instead of a deliverable.

Now find the one prompt that actually got you a usable first draft. "Write me a proposal email for a landscaping client in Cork who wants a full garden redesign. Professional but friendly. Under 200 words. Here's one that won the work last month."

No question mark, just a brief. A role, a deliverable, a format, and a reference point. The AI fills in the work instead of deciding what the work should be.

I run every prompt in my business this way. Proposals and client emails both start with a brief. I set the role, the deliverable, the format, and what good looks like. The output changed the week I stopped asking and started assigning.

Tonight, open your AI tool and give it one job. No question marks. A deliverable and a format, with one line of context about who it is for. See what comes back.
