Build this AI agent first

Most business owners I talk to have written off AI agents before they ever open one.

They picture something a developer builds. Weeks of work, a budget, someone technical on the payroll.

So they stay in the chat window, typing questions and copying the answers into other tabs by hand.

An agent is AI that takes actions instead of just answering questions. You hand it a job and it gets on with it.

And it's four parts.

The first is how you talk to it, which is nothing more than a chat window.

The second is the brain, the AI model that does the thinking.

The third is the memory, the notepad it keeps beside it. Without one it forgets your name between one message and the next.

The fourth is the hands. The hands are the tools you let it use, and that is where you decide what it's allowed to touch.

I built one in n8n this week and gave it two tools, my email and my calendar.

Now I type one line asking it to reply to someone and put them in for Thursday. It writes the email, saves it in my drafts, and puts the meeting in the calendar. I read the draft and press send myself, because an agent emailing clients unsupervised is how you end up apologising.

That's the whole thing, and every agent you'll ever see is built from those same four parts, wired up differently.

Wiring it up takes minutes. Most people stall long before that, on choosing a job worth handing over. They open the tool, look at a blank canvas, and realise they never decided what they actually wanted done.

So decide first. Pick the job you do every week and resent doing, then give your agent that one tool and nothing else.
