Long Game

AI is useless without your records

Long Game

Every business owner I talk to wants to be AI-first. Almost none of them will do the boring thing it takes.

They compare subscriptions, watch demos, test tools. And they skip the one step that makes any of it work.

You cannot have an AI-first business without being a data-first business.

Nobody wants to hear that. It is not exciting. There is no viral demo of someone tidying up a spreadsheet. But it is the truth, and I have watched it play out dozens of times.

Every business I have seen get a real advantage from AI did the same boring thing first. They got their data in order before they ever touched a tool. They collected it. They stored it properly. They kept it current. Every quote, every job, every client conversation, written down somewhere in a format AI could actually read.

I have been talking for months about building a single brain for your business. When the data is already there, AI arrives trained better than your longest-serving employee. It knows your prices, your processes, your past decisions. It does not need three sessions of back and forth before it produces anything useful.

I have clients who plugged AI into a CRM that was already well maintained. The first brief came back so accurate they barely touched it. Other clients running the same tool on scattered, half-finished records found every output needed rewriting from scratch. The only difference was what they had given it to work with.

Most people are focused on which tool is best for their business. The smart ones are focused on building the most context so that any tool serves their business.

Go and sort your data. The tools can wait.
